Eating Disorder Service: Individual Therapy
In individual therapy at Recover Newport Beach, we greet you with compassion and understanding. We provide a safe, nonjudgmental, supportive environment. After all, we know how difficult it is to let go of an eating disorder. Furthermore, our therapists use evidence-based therapy approaches to help you process difficult feelings and tolerate distress. These approaches address the emotions that often lead to destructive behaviors reinforcing the eating disorder.
We take a holistic approach to recovery by incorporating elements of mindfulness, movement, and experiential therapy. We combine these with cognitive and behavioral techniques. In fact, we truly believe that full recovery is possible when your body feels safe and you feel supported. Our team is here to help you establish the right support and reclaim your life. We know recovery is worth it. Above all, you are worth it, too.
You might be newly diagnosed, in a treatment program, recently out of a program, or participating in outpatient care. Regardless of where you are in your journey, we are here to help. If you have questions or are not sure whether you have an eating disorder, we understand. We can help you take the appropriate steps to get support in our eating disorder service.
We offer eating disorder recovery therapy virtually (anywhere in California) or in-person at our beautiful Newport Beach office.
The Healing You Deserve
Trauma-Focused Therapy
Trauma changes how we experience ourselves, our environment, our relationships, and many other aspects of daily life. For instance, it can result from one-time events, multiple occurrences, or long-lasting repetitive events (complex trauma). Unresolved trauma can creep into everyday life and affect each person differently and profoundly.
At Recover Newport Beach, our approach to trauma treatment is personalized and tailored to your needs. We meet you where you are in your healing journey. Our therapists use evidence-based treatments such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you recover from trauma. Additionally, they utilize experiential therapies like Somatic Experiencing, Psychodrama, and Art and Dance Therapy to support your healing.
Our hope is to foster your healing in a safe, loving environment. In this supportive space, your body can begin to heal from trauma and eventually grow more resilient because of it. Additionally, our team is here to help you recover your hopes and dreams and reclaim your life from trauma. Most importantly, you are worth it.
You may be newly diagnosed with PTSD, currently in a treatment program, recently finished a program, or receiving outpatient care. You might still feel that you need extra support to work through your trauma. Whatever the case, we are here to help. If you’re not sure whether you have PTSD and want to talk to someone, we are here to help you too.
We offer trauma therapy virtually to individuals anywhere in California, or in-person at our Newport Beach office.

Healing The Entire Family unit
Family Therapy
If your child or another family member has been diagnosed with an eating disorder, first remember that it is not your fault. You are not alone. Moreover, we understand the pain of watching someone you love struggle with an eating disorder. We know how hard it is to figure out the best way to support them. Family therapy provides a safe space for your family to share experiences, ask questions, and voice concerns. In turn, everyone in the family feels supported throughout the process.
At Recover Newport Beach, our approach to family therapy is collaborative, strength-based, and solution-oriented. In our sessions, we work together to identify unhelpful family patterns and work through “stuck” points in communication. Additionally, we explore your family’s culture around food and the body. Together, we implement realistic solutions aligned with recovery that support the entire family’s growth and well-being in our eating disorder services.
Your loved one might be newly diagnosed, currently in a treatment program, recently graduated from a program, or in outpatient care. Importantly, we are here to help answer your questions and find solutions that support your family. If you’re not sure whether your loved one has an eating disorder, we understand your concern. We can help you figure out the next steps.
To that end, we tailor our family therapy approach to meet your needs. We offer sessions virtually, at our Newport Beach office, or in your home for Southern California residents.

Personalized Support & Guidance
Parent Support in Our Eating Disorder Service
Supporting your child through eating disorder recovery can be disheartening, frustrating, and overwhelming. Therefore, at Recover Newport Beach, we tailor our parent coaching sessions to help you create a home environment that supports healing—for your child and for yourself. Together, we identify what is working and what isn’t, then implement realistic changes to support you and your family. Parent coaching focuses on the here-and-now, targeting daily challenges and helping you make appropriate changes in the moment.
In fact, our parent coaches are licensed therapists who provide personal and professional insight, along with education about eating disorders and any coexisting conditions. Moreover, they teach you distress tolerance skills and work closely with your family therapist and other care team members to ensure continuous support in our eating disorder service.
You may have a child who is newly diagnosed, currently in a treatment program, just discharged from a program, or in outpatient care. Whatever the situation, we are here to help. & heal together
Group Therapy
At Recover Newport Beach, we believe group healing is a vital part of recovery. It provides a supportive community and a safe, nonjudgmental space to process your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Moreover, group therapy allows you to learn helpful skills for managing an eating disorder. For instance, it can help you with many other aspects of life in recovery as well.
We offer several small, closed groups for our clients. Namely, these include skill-building groups (such as DBT and CBT groups), process groups, body image groups, and family support groups. Our mindful movement, breathing, and meditation groups further support your healing. Specifically, they help you tune into your body and give you space to connect with yourself and others.
We offer both virtual and in-person group sessions throughout the week. Check our Group and Event Calendar for current eating disorder service schedules.

Reconnect with Your Body Through
Mindful Movement
Individual and group mindful movement classes at Recover Newport Beach help you tune into your body as you move. They serve as an important tool in your recovery journey. We understand that connecting with your body can be difficult when you feel disconnected due to trauma or an eating disorder. However, in our culture, people are often encouraged to push past pain and focus on changing their bodies when they exercise. As a result, this mindset can further reinforce disconnection from your body.
Our goal is to help you reconnect with your body through breathing, gentle movement, and increased sensory awareness during exercise. We also aim to help you shift your mindset around physical activity. We want exercise to become a way to build strength and resilience, rather than a form of punishment. Furthermore, our instructor-led classes fit every body, and we tailor them to support your unique recovery needs.
Our movement services include yoga, stretching, and dance. Sessions take place in person at our Newport Beach facility or outdoors in nature (at the beach or park). They are also available virtually, in the comfort of your own home. You can participate one-on-one or in a small group setting.
Get Grounded Through
Breathwork
Breathwork is one unique part of our eating disorder service approach. Our individual and group breathwork sessions help activate your body’s natural ability to heal. Because the body stores trauma, talk therapy alone is not always enough to release it. Physical aspects of trauma often need direct attention for full healing. As a result, many people continue to feel unsafe in their bodies even when they consciously know they are safe.
However, when you practice meditation and deep, continuous breathing, you allow your body to engage with your subconscious mind in a safe, controlled environment. Furthermore, this practice allows your body to process and release physical and emotional sensations. These sensations come from hidden traumas stored in your subconscious. Compassionate, trauma-informed instructors lead our breathwork sessions to facilitate your process and ensure you feel safe throughout the experience. Our hope is that you begin to feel more connected to your story, your feelings, and your physical body. Ultimately, this growing connection can help you gain confidence in who you are. It also allows you to learn to trust the voice of your inner wisdom.
You can join breathwork sessions in person at our Newport Beach facility. You can also participate virtually from the comfort of your own home, no matter where you live. We also offer in-home sessions for our Southern California clients.
